Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of automotive suspension system for a quarter car model with variable damping coefficient. This analysis is important in planning, designing, and operating stages of the system in order to reduce vehicle vibrations due to road roughness. To predict and understand the behavior of the system, this analysis includes vehicle vertical velocity and acceleration to study the effect of variable damping coefficient on vehicle vibrations. The main objective of this project is to simulate a semi-active suspension system by using Fuzzy Logic Control to vary the value of suspension system damper stiffness. The scope of this project includes modeling and simulation of the automotive suspension system using a computer-aided simulation tool, MATLAB-Simulink. Correct input, output data and assumption shall be made to ensure that simulation and data interpretations are accurate. MATLAB-Simulink has been chosen to model and simulate the suspension system due to its flexible software structure with wide selection of toolbox and model which enables the user to perform engineering analysis for different conditions. Simulation results are observed and analyzed to understand the behavior of the system.
