Abstract

Slope failure such as shallow landslide is commonly caused by high intensity
of rainfall in long period. Lot of studies have been showed to investigate the slope
failure induced by rainfall, but the mechanism of slope failure is still not clearly
simplified. In order to understanding the failure mechanism of the slopes, the
experiments were conducted in flume with constant inclination of 45o and sand
thickness of the slope. The flume used as slope simulator to perform test on slope with
different rainfalls intensity were considered as variable. The model of slope is made
of sandy soil because many slope failure induced by rainfall occur in sandy soil. The
slope failure mechanism which are pore pressure and water content in slopes were
recorded by using piezometer and advanced Imko TDRs respectively. The type of
failure of slope induced by rainfall also were observed and discussed.
