Abstract
Semanggol formation has been classified as Permian-Triassic sedimentary rocks that are present from northern border of Kedah southwards to North of Perak. It have been established that Semanggol formation in northwestern Peninsular can be subdivided into Chert, Rhythmite and Conglomerate member. Previous studies in the area have concluded that based on radiolaria biozones classification, the formation is of deepwater deposits. This study aims to predict and conceptualize a depositional model using methods of geological fieldwork, sedimentary logging and petrography analysis. The results from sedimentary logging show three main facies identified from two different locations. These facies are very fine to fine grained sediments of mudstones, black shale and interbedded chert-shale, which could be observed from the petrographic analysis done. Interpretation from the composite logs suggests the environment of deposition is mid to distal mid fan area in deep-marine setting of the basin.
