Abstract

This project will be focusing on the study of characterization of regolith body for mineral potential in Lahat area, Perak. It is turning out to be progressively entangled to find mineral assets in Malaysia. New, innovative and creative ideas and strategies are being produced to pull in mineral exploration investment that can possibly prompt the disclosure of new assets. Regolith study is truly imperative in light of the fact that it could conceal significant mineral potential in it.
The Kinta District of Perak has for a long time been surely understood as a producer of tin-ore. By far, the more prominent extent of the metal has been derived from detrital deposits, yet special cases to the rules have been managed by certain mines where tin-ore (cassiterite) has been won from the crystalline limestone that forms, to some extent at any rate, the floor of the Kinta Valley. Lahat is a part of Kinta Valley, which has numerous tin mining locales. In this manner, the study territory is relied upon to have mineral potential.
Study on regolith of granite origin in the Lahat area, Perak was carried out. Field sampling was done using hand auger where samples from different horizons of the regolith were collected. Samples were then analysed for mineral identification by using XRD and XRF analysis. Besides, the study of mineral under binocular microscope also had been done. The results show that the study area has high potential minerals such as aluminium, zinc, zircon, gold praseodymium and platinum. This project is to ensure that Malaysia has a gold chance to prompt world in under cover exploration of new mineral potential found in regolith body. Thus, further study and evaluation can be carried out to confirm the viability all of these minerals for economical purpose.
