Abstract
Hybrid electrical vehicle is an emerging research area where power electronics converter is the heart of whole energy conversion system. Hybrid electrical vehicle driven by Photovoltaic energy has still lacking in the power conversion section such as two stage power conversion unit, increased converter size. The traditional power inverter requires two stage conversion which increase cost and complexity of control. A Novel Z-Source inverter topology has the superior power conversion capability over a wide spectrum. So the integration of Z-source inverter with hybrid electrical vehicle can contribute a significant improvement in the electrical vehicular fortification trend. In this case study, a new or novel design or topology of a Z-source inverter is proposed in order to further improvise the characteristics of a traditional Z-source inverter. Throughout this project, researches on the principle of the Z-source inverter is conducted in order to fully grasp the principle of the inverter so adjustment can be made in order to improvise the traditional inverter. Moreover, studies are also conducted on proposed designs of modified Z-source inverter that had been done by other researchers in order to obtain new idea on how to design an innovative and improved Z-source inverter. After the new and improved inverter is design theoretically, simulation is then performed by implementing the designed circuitry or topology in MATLAB/Simulink in order to test whether the design is functioning or not. Following the simulation, using the common lab components, a lab scale experiment based on the new improved design will be conduct to demonstrate the characteristic or features of the inverter in real life before proposing to advance the design to be implemented in industrial scale.
