Abstract
Most of the hospitals are facing a serious problem which is having an
inefficient scheduling system for the operation theatre. Operation theatre scheduling is
still done manually. In order to develop a systematic Operation Theatre Scheduling
System, it is necessary to develop an automated scheduling system for the
Anaesthesiology Department as it is the core component in a hospital. This
Anaesthesiology Department Scheduling System will keep the anaesthesiologists
updated on their weekly schedule as well reduce their workload of creating the weekly
schedule. There are mainly three scheduling strategies that can be used in constructing
the Anaesthesiology Department Scheduling System which are the open scheduling
strategy, block scheduling strategy and the modified block scheduling strategy.
Interviews and surveys have been conducted as part for requirements gathering in
order to develop the scheduling system. This research will focus on developing
scheduling system specifically for the Anaesthesiology Department for Hospital
Bainun, Perak.
