Abstract
Nearly 30% of Malaysia’s coastline is threatened by erosion which prompts the government into executing an erosion control program. One of the major issue that leads to coastal erosion is the extreme wave occurrence. Recently, Coral Beach of Pulau Pangkor was affected by extreme wave height which had led to damages of coastal structures and infrastructures. This study aims at predicting the extreme wave height that had caused this erosion to occur through desktop study. From the data collected from the extreme wave study, floating H-type breakwater is proposed to overcome this coastal erosion. The features and the effectiveness of the H-type floating breakwater was studied by studying the hydraulic performance of the H-type breakwater that includes the coefficient of transmission, reflection, and energy loss. In general, the floating breakwater is an effective wave attenuator, a strong wave reflector and a good energy dissipater.
