Abstract
Biomass usually is abundant, takes too much land space, and natural
decomposition ofthe biomass will contribute to the global warming. Nowadays, it has
gained much attention from public, authorities, and scientists as one ofthe promising
renewable energy options as it can be converted into fuels or chemicals through
pyrolysis. Inthis study, pyrolysis of palm kernel shell (PKS) and palm mesocarp fiber
(PMF) at the size range of 0.15-0.5, 0.5-1.0, and 1.0-2.0 mm were performed at 400,
450, 500 and 550 °C in a fluidized bed reactor with nitrogen flow rate of 25 LNTP/
min. The pyrolysis system was equipped with a char separation system and a
six-fractional condenser system. The fractional condenser system was operated at 28,
5, and -10 °C. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of biomass
type, particle size, and pyrolysis temperature on the pyrolysis product yields.
