Abstract

Heavy metals have long been identified as hazardous toxins in the environment due to
the effect of high stability and capacity to bioaccumulate. One of the important step in
the overall strategy in environmental remediation is to provide rapid, in silu, robust,
low cost and eco-fnendly monitoring and detection of the pollutant. The challenge is
to achieve high sensitivity and selectivity in environmental and biological samples
predominantly at low analyte concentrations and in the presence of interfering
substances. Spectroscopic analytical techniques such as AAS, lCP-MS and ICP-OES
are sophisticated but only suitable for well-equipped and well-funded laboratory, not
in the field application. The current work describes the development, optimization and
validation of novel Cellulose/Hydroxyapatite (HAp)/Carbon-paste Modified Electrode
(CME) for qualitative and quantitative analyses of Pb(ll) ions in aqueous medium,
blood serum, and POME. employing Cyclic Voltammctry (CV) and Square Wave
Anodic Stripping Voltammctry (SW ASV) techniques.
