Abstract
Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a subset of Mobile Ad-hoc Network
(MANET) and it is considered as a substantial component of Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS). VANET is introduced to provide safety and comfort to
drivers as a step towards constructing a safer, cleaner, and informative driving
environment. In supporting these requirements, VANET requires different security
and routing models. Denial of Service (DoS) attack is a kind of network threat, which
malicious node forges a large numbers of fake identities, such as Internet Protocol
(IP) addresses, that disrupt fair data transmission between two fast moving vehicles.
DoS attacks on V ANET are varying and may be overwhelmed by VANET protocols,
such as TCP or UDP flooding attacks. Different secure communications models can
be used to detect and prevent IP spoofing DoS attacks, by which the attacks are
committed by fraudulent and malicious nodes. In this thesis, an efficient detection
method has been proposed to detect UDP flooding attacks, called Bloom-Filter-based
IP-CHOCK (BFICK).
