Abstract
The paper explains the use of a Biometric Authentication such as Facial Recognition
implemented on a 3D Printed electromechanical locker using the Nvidia Jetson TX1 Kit.
Face recognition is a common biometric technology used in various fields and applications
because of its accuracy, security and reliability. Nowadays, smart lockers can be unlocked by many
forms, from smart NFC tags, RFID cards, passwords, voice command and image recognition.
Although such systems are very well designed and work as prescribed, the technology and
assembly is costly and often times requires high technical skills for installation, which makes it
more of a luxurious item to have rather than a must have product. Hence, this proposed system will
use a cheaper 3D printed version of a smart locker, incorporated on an Embedded GUI System and
connected trough a Facial Recognition Algorithm using OpenCV Library that will serve to scan,
store and send commands to either lock or unlock the smart locker.
The system is efficient, expected to be cheaper and will use a less high tech material and
assembly.
