Abstract

Surfactant adsorption on porous media is one of the major criteria which decides
the economic viability of surfactant flooding in chemical enhance oil recovery
applications (CEOR). Static adsorption of a novel in-house synthesized anionic
surfactant was investigated using crushed Berea sandstone by depletion method. The
maximum static adsorption of anionic surfactant was 0.96 mg / g. The point of zero
(PZC) charge of Berea sandstone was determined using three different techniques.
The investigated PZC for Berea core by all three methods is pH 8.0. Critical micelle
concentration (CMC) of the synthesized anionic surfactant was also reported using
conductivity method. The equilibrium adsorption process was validated using
Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models.
