Abstract

This project is concern the non-linear wave kinematic beneath extreme waves
based on the large linear wave (Random wave) and numerical approach of
Boundary Element Method (BEM) application. Large linear wave method is
popularised and commonly adopted in the industry context due to the fast
implementation with low resources required. On the other hand, application of
BEM as the “numerical wave tank” have been deem accurate by many previous
works and researches but required long time domain simulation. Despite the works
done by previous researchers, the change of non-linearity in extreme wave over
various depth “kd” is not fully understood. In addition, the sea state parameter along
these changes also not fully explored. In this report, the surface elevation, η and
horizontal velocity, u of both approaches shall be compared and analysed. Last but
not least, the sea-state parameters that lead to the changes in various depth are
identified.
