Abstract
Knowledge sharing among students has become an essential activity which can result
in the improvement of students' learning outcome. However, the current e-learning
technology, such as the learning management system, applied in the Malaysian higher
education institutions lacks the characteristics which could support this activity. On
the other hand, the current generation of students is pervasively sharing information
and knowledge through the social software tools such as Facebook, blogs, and content
sharing sites etc. These tools have common characteristics which support knowledge
and information sharing which are informal setting, communication, network and
community, and user generated content. This study attempts to examine the
relationships between the aforementioned characteristics and knowledge sharing
behaviour of the students.
