Abstract

The main goal of this project is to develop a supply chain management system (SCMS) where small to medium enterprises (SMEs) can afford to acquire and utilize in their daily operations of supply chain activities, effectively monitoring and tracking materials and product flow from inbound raw material shipments to final product exports from the manufacturing facilities. Well-known companies like Oracle, IBM, and SAP together with other industrial competitors of them have released products and suites with advanced functionalities, but many of them are geared towards large corporations and the pricing might not be affordable for most startups and SMEs. Combined with the reason of offering simplicity and budget-friendly solutions, I have decided to develop a lightweight version of an SCMS aptly named the Intelligent Supply Chain Management System (iSCMS) using easily obtainable and affordable software tools while using this opportunity to learn deeper into the internal functions of supply chain management, together with how an SCMS works. From my research conducted in making the interim report, a supply chain management system includes the basic components of planning, sourcing, manufacturing, logistics and transportation, distribution, retail, and returns. iSCMS will include an example of usage in business-to-business retail for this prototype but will exclude returns due to simplification and optimization for manufacturing/warehousing facilities. The planning stage in a typical supply chain management system involves setting production schedules and determining inventory levels. Another prototype of the iSCMS is also developed to showcase the monitor and planning of inventory levels in a business-to-business retail company. Through the demo of both usage scenarios, iSCMS aims to deliver a supply chain management solution for products/services to be produced or provided and delivered efficiently at low cost for startups and small-medium enterprises. To narrow the scope, this project will omit certain features included in advanced SCM solutions.
