Abstract

The project’s main goal is to revolutionize the vehicle rental experience within the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) community through the development of a dedicated mobile application. The current state of vehicle rentals at UTP is marked by manual processes, fragmented information, and a lack of transparency, necessitating the creation of an intuitive and efficient solution. Leveraging the Flutter framework for the interface and MySQL for database functionality and node.js for backend, the project aims to construct a user-friendly application tailored to the unique preferences and requirements of UTP students and staff. The literature review delves into the critical aspects of user-centric design principles, security measures, and insights from successful models in Malaysia, with specific reference to GoCar, SOCAR, and Kwikcar. These established applications offer valuable lessons for the project, emphasizing the significance of a well-designed interface and robust security protocols. The scope of the project encompasses a thorough study of UTP's vehicle rental landscape, competitive analysis, user interface design, security implementation, and efficiency metrics. Future recommendations include the integrating a user feedback mechanism to continuously enhance the application's functionality and user experience, exploring the possibility of implementing a loyalty program or incentives for frequent users, and investigating the feasibility of expanding the app's availability to other universities or institutions could broaden its impact and utility. This mobile app caters to two distinct user types which are service users and service providers. Service users enjoy a streamlined interface for browsing and renting vehicles, real-time updated vehicle availability, and secure transactions. They can manage their rental preferences effortlessly. For service providers, the app simplifies the listing process, allowing them to showcase their vehicle availability with detailed information, set pricing options, and manage rental requests efficiently. The app ensures robust security measures for both user types, safeguarding personal and financial information. This dual-functionality app provides a tailored experience for the UTP community, meeting the needs of both service users and service providers. Additionally, service users also have the opportunity to seamlessly transition into service providers by register as service provider and registering their own vehicles on the application, empowering them to offer rental services within the UTP community.
