Abstract

The aim of the current study is to characterize the adhesion bonding of intumenscent coating on steel substrate with respect to its mechanical, phisycal and chemical properties, before and after a fire test. Carbon steel was used as the substrate material and its surface was sand blasted to ensure strong bodning between the steel substrate and the intumescent coating. A primer coating was applied on the steel substrate prior to applying the intumescent to further strengthen the bonding. The coated steel substrates were subjected to fire in a furnace.
