Abstract
This project is entitled `Preparedness among Technical Professionals for Green Building in the
Malaysian Construction Industry'. The aim for this project is to propose on how to promote
Green Building and Green Building Rating System and also to recommend possible
implementation strategy in Malaysia's Building and Construction Industry.
This project is a quantitative survey based project that focuses on the awareness,
understanding, preparedness and perceptions of the people in the industry, especially Technical
Professionals from various fields including; Construction and Structure, Mechanical and
Electrical, Architect, Quantity Surveyor, Contract Manager and etc, regarding Green Building
concept and its' rating system.
In conducting the survey, the questionnaire forms have been distributed through mail to
various related companies. Furthermore, feedbacks and responses of the research were also
collected by attending Malaysian Property Expo (MAPEX) and face to face interview with the
respective personnel from the industry. Thorough literature review is done in order to have
better explanations and evaluation of the findings.
At the end of the report the author has concluded that the current condition of Malaysian
Construction Industry in term of the awareness on global environment issues is still moderate
and the understanding of the Green building concept, practices and techniques is relatively low.
Thus, it reflects the preparedness of the industry on Green Building Rating System and the
Green Building Index Malaysia to be in the same level as well.
