Abstract

The purpose of this report is to present the research and descriptions of project
"Automation: Handwriting Recognition for Data Entry". The objective ofthis project is
to automate the process ofhandwriting recognition for data entry. The automated process
will have the data automatically loaded and automatically located for the next step to take
place. The research and development in this project consisted of designing a platform for
examination booklet, finding a suitable circuit to control the platform from
microcontroller, establishing a serial communication between microcontroller and
personal computer, and also finding a suitable method as a means to determine the
correct location of the data sheet. This report is divided into four main parts which are
introduction, literature review, methodology and results and discussions. Introduction
will cover a brief description of background study, problem statement and objectives as
well as scope of study. The literature review will cover all findings and supporting
information just as the name. Methodology will revolve around procedure identification
and tool required in this project. Results and discussions will present some research,
progress and test conducted during the time period. In this project, an automated platform
which was controlled via RS232 on the Personal Computer was developed. The
positioning ofthe examination booklet was determined based on the location ofUTP oval
logo viewed from the first webcam and by utilizing Normalized Cross Correlation
method for the secondary program (ICDE) to take place.
