Abstract

Greenhouse gas emission (GHG) has become serious threat to the environment nowadays. In order to reduce the gas emission to the atmosphere, carbon dioxide is injected to the underground formation for carbon sequestration process. The stored CO2 might have a potential to leakage from the storage through the wellbore, due to poor cementation and high concentration of CO2. The permeability and integrity of the cement plug playing the key factor in preventing the CO2 leakage. The purpose of this research is to discover the potential of CO2 leakage from abandon well, by analyzing the reaction of CO2 and effect on Portland cement permeability. The process will be simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics, a software tool that has been used to analyses the fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transfer, chemical reactions, and related phenomena by solving the mathematical equations which govern these processes using a numerical process.
