Abstract
Gasification of various types biomass to produce producer gas or syngas as alternative energy source has been widely researched with the aim to reduce greenhouse gases emission as well as reducing the dependency to fossil fuel. One of the main promising applications of syngas produced from gasification is for power generation, which is one of the objectives of this study by varying the syngas temperature supplied to a small-scale electrical power diesel generator. This is because syngas temperature flowing out of the gasifier is always quite high, hence the need to cool the syngas down, increasing capital cost. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of the varying syngas temperature supplied to the performance of the diesel generator. The feedstock used as the gasifier fuel is wood chips, and the syngas produced was cleaned by a wet scrubber. The temperature of the syngas was controlled by controlling the amount of water pumped into the gas cleaning system. The electrical generator performance is analyzed through the diesel consumption rate of the generator’s engine and the stable power output of the generator.
