Abstract

Since the depleting of fossil fuels becomes a problem, proposing renewable source such as poultry waste as a potential biomass will give many benefits. The objective of this project is to study the characteristics of biomass fuel from poultry by using proximate and ultimate analysis. The experiment will be conducted on the poultry sample and the result will be compared with other biomass materials characteristics by using data of biomass samples from the established literature review.
Based on proximate analysis, the characteristics such as moisture, volatile matter, ash, and fixed carbon can be obtained. While for ultimate analysis, the experiment result will give the quantitative determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen. From the content of hydrogen and carbon, the higher heating value (HHV) is known. PPDS shows high HHV if compared to other type of biomass hence it can be proposed to be a potential fuel.
