Abstract

The Crank-Rocker engine is a novel single-piston curve-cylinder engine design, patented in Malaysia by University Technology PETRONAS (UTP). The engine is an alternative to the conventional four stroke internal combustion engine. The engine specifications are gasoline-port injection, four-stroke, spark-ignition, and single-curved cylinder. In order to observe the engine performance, many experiments have been conducted. Experimental work had been conducted in the past to examine the engine performance and then the data were analyzed for further improvement for the current work. Performance of an internal combustion engine varies with different conditions, i.e. changes in engine speeds and loads.
From cylinder pressure, other combustion characteristics such as mass fraction burned and heat release rate have been determined. The performance data such as Indicated Torque, Indicated Power, Indicated Specific Fuel Consumption, and Indicated Thermal Efficiency were calculated. At same time, the presence of emissions such as CO, CO2, NOx, HC and oxygen appeared in exhaust were measured by using emission sensor.
