Abstract
This project studies parabolic trough collector (PTC) simulation model for direct steam generation. In this project, the simulation in intended as a way to improve renewable energy source usage in Malaysia. Malaysia has abundant solar availability but it is not fully utilized. The simulation project was done using TRNSYS, as the renewable energy production using parabolic trough was still in its early stage in Malaysia. Parabolic trough collector is the most researched solar concentrator out of all concentrated solar power collector (CSP). This model uses much less parabolic trough and uses the once trough process of steam generation. Simulation model was done by creating a small model that was the same as the Direct Solar Steam (DISS) loop. The simulation was done for 1 month. The simulation was able to achieve a maximum temperature of 400oC. The average temperature was about 200oC. The temperature rise is proportional to solar beam radiation. There are some days where the temperature is very low caused by clouds or rain.
