Abstract
Purification of water is the process of separating water which is purely H2O from other substance and impurities presents in the water. This project is about analyzing the performance of an ice crystal collection mechanism in a Freezing Desalination process. When water freeze only pure water crystalize. If those water is collected and melted, pure form of water is obtained. Testing for purity of water could be done by chemical techniques such as comparing the pH value, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), conductivity and turbidity of water. The readings of the samples which are obtained from the pH value chemical technique is approximately at average of 7.16 and the range of the pH value is between 6.5 – 9.0. Besides, the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) values which are obtained from the samples are an average of lower than 10mg/l which is within the range of drinking water based on the guideline of Ministry of Health Malaysia. Conductivity value of water obtained from the samples are an average of 0.05 s/m and are within the drinking range as given guideline by Ministry of Health Malaysia and the turbidity value is an average of 0.43 NTU. Since as given guideline by World Health Organization (WHO) the optimum turbidity range of drinking water is below 1 NTU, hence the results obtained from the samples are useful for drinking purpose. The main goal of this project is to successfully demonstrate the procedure and considerations that need to be taken which should be taken in conducting Freeze Desalination Technique. This project is to analyze the performance of an Ice Crystal Collection Mechanism in a Freezing Desalination Process. The comparison on advantages and disadvantages of Freeze Desalination and Boiling Condensation process are explained in this report.
