Abstract

This project addresses the lack of study in term of pre-planning or pre-processing of 3D product in the Additive Manufacturing industry. Over the year, many studies have focused on optimizing the product or the machine of 3D Printer but the findings in the area of pre-processing 3D product is smaller if compared to the latter. The project aims to optimize build orientation for 3D printing specifically for Fused Deposition Modelling Technology to minimize build time and support structure. The project has successfully suggested build orientations to minimize build time and support structure. Every part has different characteristics thus not all can have the same orientation since the feature of the part also different. On the other hand, some feature such as overhang part and curved will produce the support structure with any orientation suggested. The author used CubePro printer and its proprietary software for the project.
