Abstract

Adhesion of coating to a substrate depends on many factors including surface roughness of the substrate. This study investigates the effect of surface roughness on adhesion properties of polyurea coating on a metal substrate. Metal substrate was prepared to an SA 2.5 blasting grade and was then coated to a thickness of 1 mm with polyurea. Elcometer 106 adhesion tester is used to measure the adhesion strength of polyurea. The surface roughness was then measured by using a Perthometer and Ra and Rz parameters were recorded. The relationship between surface roughness and adhesion strength was investigated.
